How to Use Mico: Your First Application Panel
How to use Mico on Discord: add the bot, run /setup, change the panel's questions and roles, test it, decide what comes in, and where to get help.

This is the hands-on page: five steps from an empty server to a panel your members can apply on. If you are still working out what Mico is, start with Mico AI, the Discord bot that reads your applications. If you want the long version for staff applications, with every permission explained, read how to set up a Discord staff application bot.

How do you add Mico to your server?
You need Manage Server on that server. Open the start page, press Add Mico to your server, pick the server and keep the permissions the invite asks for.
Two of them matter for the next step: Manage Channels and Manage Roles. Without them, /setup cannot make the channels or the reviewer role, and it tells you so instead of half finishing.
What does /setup make?
Type /setup in any channel. Only you see the reply. In one step, it makes or reuses four things:
What /setup leaves you with
- Reviewer role
- A role you already use for this, such as Reviewer, Staff or Moderators. If none fits, it makes "Application Reviewer"
- #apply
- Where people apply. Everyone can read it, only the bot posts in it. An existing #apply is reused
- #application-reviews
- Where applications arrive. Private: only the reviewer role and Mico can see it
- Starter panel
- "Staff applications", with four questions and AI scoring on, posted in #apply with its Apply Now button
It never renames or deletes anything. If your server already has an #application-reviews channel that everyone can read, Mico leaves it alone and makes a private one, because applications hold what people wrote about themselves. The reply card says which parts were made and which were already there, so you know what not to undo.
Next, give the reviewer role to the people who should decide. The review channel is private to that role and Mico, so the answers stay with your reviewers.
/setup runs once, on a server with no panel yet. If it refuses, either the server already has a panel (use /panel), or Mico is missing Manage Channels or Manage Roles. Posting that first panel also starts the server's free Premium trial, once per server.
How do you change a Mico panel?
There are two places: /panel in Discord, or the panel editor on the dashboard at micoapp.io. Both use the same groups: text and look, questions, who can apply, reviewers and pings, AI scoring, opening hours and limits, messages and after a decision, and channels. Panel images are uploaded on the dashboard. When you save, the panel already posted in Discord changes with it.
The four starter questions are a placeholder, so most of your time goes here:
| Setting | What it does | Plan |
|---|---|---|
| Required or optional | Send stays off until every required question is answered | Every plan |
| Shortest and longest answer | A character range for each question. A minimum stops one-word answers | Every plan. The longest allowed answer grows with the plan |
| Placeholder | A hint in the answer box, such as "Your time zone, for example UTC+2" | Every plan |
| Expected answer | A private note telling the AI what a good answer says. Applicants never see it | Every plan |
| Identifier | Kept with the application but not scored. Use it for name, age or time zone | Every plan |
| Reviewer roles | Who can see and decide this panel's applications, besides Manage Server | Every plan. How many depends on the plan |
| Roles on accept or deny | Roles given or taken the moment someone is decided | Every plan |
| Minimum days in the server | Keeps people who joined today from applying | Every plan |
| Your own accept, deny and submitted messages | What the applicant reads, in your words | Premium and Pro |
| Cooldown, required roles, opening hours | Who can apply again, who can apply at all, and when | Premium and Pro |
Two settings catch people out. A reward role only works if Mico's own role sits above it in Server Settings, because Discord never lets a bot give a role higher than its own: giving a role on accept has the fix. And the expected answer is where your bar lives, so write it before the first application arrives.
What to actually ask depends on the panel. The moderator application template has questions you can copy.
How do you create another panel?
Each panel has its own questions, reviewers and roles, so staff applications never mix with whitelist or partner requests. There are three ways to make one:
- From scratch. Run
/paneland press Create. It asks for the apply channel and the review channel, then makes a working panel. - With the AI. In the same Create step, describe your server in a sentence or two and the AI writes a draft panel with questions for you to edit.
- From another server. The panel library holds panels other servers shared. Copy a key, then use Import in
/panelor on the dashboard.
On the dashboard, New panel offers the same options, plus templates. Members can only apply on a posted panel: if a new one is not posted yet, open it in /panel and press Post. How many panels a server can have depends on its plan.
What does applying look like for a member?
Apply once yourself before you announce anything. A member presses Apply Now on the panel, and Mico checks they are allowed: the panel is not paused, they have been in the server long enough, they are not already waiting on this panel, and so on. Then the questions arrive in their DMs, one card at a time:

Staff applications
You are about to apply to Staff applications in Northwind.
3 questions, answered one at a time. You can go back and change an answer until you send it.
It closes by itself after 24 hours without an answer.

Question 2 of 3
███████░░░
A member posts a slur in general and deletes it a second later. What do you do?
Required · 20 to 1000 characters.
Your answer
Check the audit log and the message logger, time them out per the rules, note it in mod-log and tell the rest of the team.
1 required question left before you can send.
They move with Previous and Next, check their answers, and press Send. From then on the answers are frozen. A member whose DMs are closed presses View Online under the panel and fills in the same application on micoapp.io, after signing in with Discord. Either way, applicants must be members of your server.
Later, in their DMs with Mico, /application lets them continue one they have not sent, or withdraw one that is still waiting. Unfinished applications close by themselves after the hours the panel allows.
How do reviewers decide?
When an application is sent, Mico scores each one, as long as the panel has AI scoring on and the server has scores left this month: a quality score and a "looks AI-written" score, with a short reason. The score is advice for reviewers. The applicant never sees it, and a person decides unless you turn on automatic decisions by score for that panel.
Reviewers can decide in three places, and they all share one queue:

@Reviewers
Application #128
@kestrel for Staff applications

2. A member posts a slur in general and deletes it a second later. What do you do?

- The review channel. Each application arrives with its answers, its scores, the full text as a file, and the buttons. Talk to them opens a private thread with the applicant when you want to ask something first.
- /review. A private menu with each panel you review and how many applications wait in it, plus search.
- The dashboard. Applications opens on the Waiting view. Long answers are easier on a big screen, and you can tick up to 25 and accept or deny them together.
It is the same decision wherever you click, and only the first click counts. Accepting or denying sends the applicant a DM and gives or takes the panel's roles. Where waiting applications sit and the dashboard tour go deeper.
Which Mico commands do you need?
- /setup
- Make the server ready for applications in one step: an apply channel, a private review channel, a reviewer role and a ready panel
- /panel
- Create panels, or open one to change its questions, look and rules, post it, pause it, share it or see its numbers
- /review
- What is waiting in the panels you review, with Accept and Deny, search and reviewer statistics
- /application
- For applicants, in DMs: see your own applications and continue one you have not sent yet
- /subscription
- Your plan, what you used this month, and the bigger plans
- /help
- What Mico does, how to start, and every command by topic
- /ping
- Check that Mico, its database and Discord are answering
/setup, /panel and /subscription need Manage Server. /review also works for anyone holding one of a panel's reviewer roles. The docs list every command with who can use it.
Is Mico free?
Yes, there is a free plan with no time limit and no card. It takes unlimited applications and covers the whole flow on this page: the panel, applying in DMs or on the web, the review channel, roles on accept and AI scores for a set number of applications each month.
Limits differ by plan: how many panels, questions, roles and AI scores you get. Your own messages, a cooldown, required roles and opening hours need Premium or Pro. The numbers are on the pricing page, and what the free plan includes goes through it line by line.
Where do you get help with Mico?

Frequently asked questions
An apply channel everyone can read, a private review channel only the reviewer role and Mico can see, a reviewer role, and a Staff applications panel with four questions, posted in the apply channel. It reuses a channel or role you already have when one fits, and it never renames or deletes anything.
Run /panel and press Create. It asks for the apply channel and the review channel, then makes a working panel, or lets the AI write a draft from a short description of your server. You can also import a panel another server shared in the panel library at micoapp.io/community. How many panels a server can have depends on its plan.
No. The free plan has no time limit, needs no card and takes unlimited applications, with AI scores for a set number of them each month. Paid plans add more scores, panels and roles, plus features such as your own messages, cooldowns and opening hours. The current limits are on micoapp.io/pricing.
In the panel's private review channel, with the answers, the AI scores and the Accept and Deny buttons. Reviewers can also run /review in the server, or open Applications on the dashboard at micoapp.io, which starts on the Waiting view. A decision made in one place shows in all three.
In Mico's support server on Discord, at discord.gg/7eJt5YrUDD, which is also the Support button under /help. The docs at micoapp.io/docs cover setup and every command, and the status page shows whether Mico is up right now.
