Whitelist Applications on Discord for FiveM, GTA RP and Minecraft Servers
Run FiveM, GTA RP or Minecraft whitelist applications in Discord: the questions to ask, a whitelist role on accept, and how that role reaches your game server.

A whitelist exists to keep out people who will not play the way your server plays. That makes the application the actual filter, and it is worth getting right before launch week, when a few hundred people apply on the same evening.
How does a whitelist work when Discord is the gate?
Almost every whitelisted community ends up with the same shape:
- Player applies in Discord
- Staff accept
- Whitelist role given
- Game server checks the role
- Player joins
The application and the role are Discord's side. The game server only needs to answer one question: does this player have the role? How it answers depends on your setup, which is covered further down.
Mico does the first three steps. Members press Apply on the panel, answer in their DMs (or on the website if their DMs are closed), and the application lands in a private review channel. A reviewer accepts, and Mico gives the whitelist role.
How do you build the whitelist panel?
Keep whitelist requests on their own panel, separate from staff applications, with its own review channel and its own reviewers. That way your whitelist team reads only whitelist requests, and you can pause one panel without touching the other.
A few panel settings matter more for whitelists than for anything else:
Whitelist panel settings
- Identifier questions
- In-game name, Minecraft username, Steam name: kept and shown, never scored
- Minimum days in the server
- Applicants must have been in your Discord a while. Every plan
- Reward role on accept
- Gives the whitelist role, and can remove an "applicant" role
- Opening hours and a cap
- Open at set times and stop after a number of accepts. Premium and above
- Cooldown
- How long a denied player waits before trying again. Premium and above
- Required roles
- Only members who verified or read the rules can apply. Paid plans
Minimum days in the server is the cheapest filter there is against people who join, apply and leave. Note that it counts days in your server, not the age of the Discord account. Stopping spam applications covers the other checks.
Which RP questions reveal judgement?
Rule quizzes test whether someone can read. Roleplay servers need to know whether someone will make the city fun for other people. Questions that show that:
- Your in-game name and how long you have played RP. Mark it as an identifier.
- What does OOC mean, and when is it acceptable to go out of character? Look for "rarely, and briefly, and only for a real reason", not a dictionary definition.
- Explain metagaming and powergaming in your own words, with an example. Copied definitions are easy to spot. An example from their own play is not.
- Write a short backstory for your character. You are reading for a person with flaws and goals, not a superhero.
- You are robbed at gunpoint and the robber's RP is poor. What do you do in character, and what do you do after? Good answers play it out, then report it the way your rules ask.
- Your character is arrested for something you did not do. How do you play it? Shows whether they value a good scene over winning.
- Do you have a working microphone? Only if you require one.
For Minecraft survival or SMP servers, swap the RP questions for: how they play with others, what they would build, how they feel about griefing and raiding rules, and one scenario about a dispute between neighbours.
In Mico, write what a good answer contains in each question's expected answer note. Players never see it, and the AI scores against your standard instead of a generic one. Longer advice on writing questions is in the moderator application template; the scenario method carries over.
What happens when you accept a whitelist application?
A reviewer presses Accept. Mico then:
- gives the whitelist role (and removes any role you set to remove, such as "Applicant"),
- sends the player a DM with the decision. On Premium and above you write that message yourself, so it can say how to connect,
- updates the review message with who decided.
Only the first click counts, so two reviewers cannot both handle the same player. One rule from Discord itself: Mico can only give roles that sit below its own role in your server settings. If the whitelist role is above Mico's, the role is not given and the review message says so. The fix is in give a role when a Discord application is accepted.
How does the role get into FiveM or Minecraft?
This is the part people expect an application bot to do, and Mico does not. Two common ways to close the gap:
1. The game server reads the Discord role. Many FiveM and Minecraft communities run a resource or plugin that checks a player's Discord roles when they connect, after the player links their Discord account. Mico gives the role; the game server lets in whoever has it. This is the most common setup, and nothing on Mico's side needs configuring beyond the reward role.
2. A webhook into your own script. On Premium and above, a panel can send a webhook when an application is submitted, accepted or denied. It carries the applicant's Discord ID, and the submit event carries the answers, including that username question. Your own script can take it from there: add the player to a database, run a whitelist command, anything your server supports. How it works, and how to check a request really came from Mico, is in the application webhook guide.
Role check on the game server
- Works on every plan
- No code on your side
- Removing the role removes access
- Player must link Discord in-game
Webhook into your own script
- Needs Premium or above
- You write and host the script
- You handle removals yourself
- Can whitelist by username directly
How do you survive launch week?
Launch week brings more applications in one evening than the rest of the month. Things that help:
- Open in waves. On Premium and above, set opening hours and a cap on accepted applications. When the cap is reached, the panel stops taking new ones.
- Pause the panel on any plan when your team needs to catch up.
- Use the AI score to sort, not to decide. Reviewers can read the best-scoring applications first. Automatic accept and deny thresholds exist, but for a whitelist most servers should start with a person deciding every one.
- Add reviewers per panel. Give your whitelist team the panel's reviewer role so they can decide without full server permissions.
What does Mico not do for whitelists?
Good fit
- FiveM, GTA RP, Minecraft and other game servers that whitelist through Discord
- Teams reviewing a big launch-week pile together
- Servers that want written backstories and scenarios, read with an AI score as a second opinion
Not the right call
- No game server connection: no RCON, no FiveM permissions, no Minecraft whitelist command
- No account-age check: it counts days in your server, not how old the Discord account is
- Text questions only: no file uploads for screenshots or clips, no multiple choice
- No built-in voting: the first reviewer to press Accept or Deny decides
If your whitelist must be written straight into the game with no plugin and no script, you need a tool built for that game. If your game server can read a Discord role, Mico covers everything before that.

Frequently asked questions
No. Mico does not connect to game servers: no RCON, no FiveM permissions, no Minecraft whitelist command. It gives a Discord role on accept, and on paid plans it can send a webhook to your own script. Your game server then reads the role or your script does the whitelist step.
Your in-game name and how long they have played RP, a short character backstory, what OOC and metagaming mean in your own words, when it is acceptable to break character, and one or two scenarios set in your city. Scenarios and backstories show judgement far better than rule quizzes.
Mark the question as an identifier in the panel. Identifier questions are kept with the application and shown to reviewers but are not scored, which suits usernames, Steam names and time zones.
On Premium and above, yes. A panel can have daily opening hours and a cap on accepted applications, so you can run launch week in waves. On any plan you can also pause the panel by hand.
No. It checks how many days someone has been in your server, which you can set per panel. That keeps fresh joins out but says nothing about the age of the account itself.
